YOUNGSTOWN A homegoing celebration in honor of Mrs. Vernice Penny, 89 will be held Friday February 11, 2022 at 12pm at the Alpha and Omega First Baptist Church, 3120 Winton Ave. Youngstown, OH. Mrs. Vernice Penny, 89, "Beloved Mother" and respected matriarch of the Penny family, and to countless others whom she cared for and mothered; was called to her eternal resting place on Tuesday, February 1, 2022; peacefully at her home, having slept away with a smile on her face. Mrs. Vernice (Alderman) Penny, entered this world on October 21, 1932, in Hahira, GA; born to Mr. Columbus and Mrs. Earlean Alderman. She was a High School graduate in Hahira, GA, where she was a phenomenal track star, and recruited by Albany State University. In Georgia, she met and married the love of her life Otha Penny, Sr., later moving to the eastside of Youngstown, Ohio, a.k.a "The Sharon Line," where they would build a home for their growing family. Mother Penny was a dedicated homemaker, who loved people, always willing to share a smile, words of encouragement, and offer a hearty meal to anyone who came through her doors. She was an excellent cook, and many neighborhood children grew up around the "Penny Kitchen Table !" Mrs. Vernice Penny was employed for many years by Packard Electric, of Warren, Ohio; and Park Vista Nursing Home, of Youngstown, Ohio. Mrs. Vernice Penny was later appointed as a Presiding Judge and poll worker for the Board of Elections, where she worked many years. Mother Vernice Penny enjoyed gardening, and she could grow anything. She enjoyed football, game shows, the soaps, and cheering on the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State teams. She was outgoing, energetic, and personable, she had a knack for sales, and enjoyed fundraisers; where she would quickly "sell out by the cases," ANY item that she received for sale. She was a "lightening rod," lighting up any room which she entered, an elegant lady, and a sharp dresser--who loved her "BLING !!!" She was a genuine force to be reckoned with, who turned her "house," into a home--A True Mother, who loved her husband, family, and church. She was also proud to hold an esteemed honor, as being one of the eldest Church Mother's of Alpha and Omega First Baptist Church, Youngstown Ohio; where she faithfully attended services, serving others for decades (until she was no longer able). She was a loyal and dedicated member, and a loyal usher within her church. She loved the fellowship, and most importantly, she loved The Word of God ! It was Mother Pennys' faith, that sustained her, as she repeatedly would say; "Just Hold On, To Gods unchanging hand!," and that is exactly what Mother Vernice Penny did, until she drew her last earthly breath, peeped out from beneath one eye, smiled, and gave up the ghost, as the The Lord, ushered our Beloved, Mother Vernice Penny into Eternity!!! Mrs Vernice Penny leaves to cherish her memories, and celebrate her life; her only daughter, Dr. Pastor Annie V. Penny-Johnson of California, and six remaining sons; Pastor's, Apostle Wayne L. Penny, Sr. Apostle/Prophetess Dieldra L. Penny); Herdis Penny, Wendell Penny, Orson Penny, and James "J.C." Penny; all of Youngstown, Ohio; a loving host of grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Eulene McFadden of Hahira, GA, and Mrs. Lula Mae Penny of Miami, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; Mr Columbus Henry Alderman and Mrs Earlean Alderman; her loving husband, Mr Otha Penny, Sr.; her brother's Mr Columbus Henry Alderman, Jr., and Mr Gilbert Alderman, Sr.; her eldest son, Mr Otha Penny, Jr; grandsons Timothy LaRoyal Southard, and a great-grandson Ezekiel Summers.
