Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Samuels will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m. on Monday, February 14, 2022, at the funeral home.

Prest Samuels and Ruthie Lee Johnson-Pulliam welcomed a son, Henry Jackson Samuels on December 29, 1931, in St. Clair County, Alabama.

Mr. Samuels dedicated his life to Christ and became a member of Corinth Missionary Baptist Church. He was a faithful member serving as a deacon and on the board of treasury until his health began to hinder him. Henry was a graduate of R. R. Moton High School and continued his education at Alabama A&M University. Although he did not graduate, Henry was very grateful to have walked the hills of Normal, Alabama and this was evident in the fact that he still carried his student identification card in his wallet until his last days. On March 27, 1951, Henry enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably until March 26, 1953.

Some time after returning home from the Army, Henry began his professional career as an operator at the Beaunit Fibers Division of Beaunit Corporation and later became lead grinder with over 20 years of service dedicated to Shellcast. Henry met Myrtle Doris Edison and on August 29, 1956, they united as one and began their lives as husband and wife. Their love lasted over 62 years until Myrtle’s passing in December, 2018. Like many of Henry’s generation, he found enjoyment in watching westerns and wrestling. Henry loved to listen to music and would occasionally shake a leg on the dancefloor. If you took a ride down Odena Road, you knew that Henry took pride in maintaining his cars because you would see him washing them and keeping them shined up every opportunity he had.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, February 8, 2022, the Lord called home his servant, Henry Jackson Samuels. Welcoming him to eternity was his wife, Myrtle D. Samuels; his parents, Prest Samuels and Ruthia Lee Johnson-Pulliam; and two siblings, Bessemer Samuels and Hattie B. Samuels.

Precious memories of Mr. Samuel will remain in the hearts of his two daughters, Drucilla (Marvin) Foster of Sylacauga, Alabama and Marnetta (Allen) Glenn of Sycamore, Alabama; two sons, Henry (Shaunda) Samuels of Opelika, Alabama and Orentha (Shimeka) Samuels of Alabaster, Alabama; twenty-two grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

I have known Mr. Henry since my birth, there in Sylacauga. He and his family had always been a part of my life. The most memorable times were when he and Mrs. Doris and my mom and Dad would spend their Friday nights playing spades for which I learned the most from him. I want to send all my condolence to the Samuel Family. Victor L. Player-Cook
