Knoxville - Matthew Henry Jackson, Jr., age 62, of Knoxville, departed this life on February 12, 2022 at UT Medical Center. He attended Alcoa High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. To those who loved him, he was called "Action Jackson" or "AJ." He was a joyful man with a great big heart. He loved kids and went out of his way to make a kid smile. "AJ" had a gift of gab and was a fun-loving individual.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Shelby Jean Jackson; grandson, Gregory Smith, Jr.; siblings: Alethia Jackson and Stephen Jackson; and nephew, Sidney Jackson, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Matthew III, Dashawn & Ieshia Jackson, and Jasmine Johnson; ten grandchildren; three brothers: Ricky (Karen), David, and Dwight Jackson; four sisters: Deborah Wims, Rhonda Hickey, Trina (John) Dickerson, and Devonne (Tony) Boga; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 20, 2022 from 3:00-4:00 PM in the William V. Powell Memorial Chapel of Unity Mortuary with the funeral service to follow at 4:00 PM with Pastor David Cleveland officiating. The final resting place with military honors and dove release will be on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at 12:30 PM at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, John Sevier Highway. Social distancing and face coverings will be practiced.
Mr. Jackson will lie in state on Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Unity Mortuary Chapel.
