John Roland Barnes, III

Mr. John Roland Barnes, III, 33, of Silver Springs, MD, formerly of Phenix City, AL died Thursday, February 24, 2022 in Washington, DC.

Funeral service will be held 12 noon EST Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Mt. Mariah Baptist Church, Pittsview, AL with Rev. Frederick Miller, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, March 4, 2022 from 12-5 p.m. EST.

John Roland "Boomer" Barnes, III, the oldest child born to John Roland Barnes, Jr. and the late Felieicia Lewis Barnes, was born on February 3, 1989 in Columbus, Georgia.

Boomer accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Mariah Baptist Church in Pittsview, Alabama, under the leadership of the late Reverend Solomon Tarver. Prior to enrollment in college, he was an active member of the choir. He was a talented individual and genuinely loved to sing. He also enjoyed modeling.

Boomer was educated in the Russell County School District and participated in football and track. He was a member of the Class of 2006. Upon graduation, he attended Tuskegee University. Later he relocated to Washington, DC, where he enrolled in the University of the District of Columbia and completed studies to attain a Bachelor of Science degree. He was a Spring 2017 initiate of the Omicron Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He was a member of the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Precious memories will be cherished by his father, John (Arleshia) Barnes, Jr.; brothers, Brandon Barnes and Marquavion Spivey; paternal grandmother, Essie Barnes; maternal grandmother, Elmer Lewis; nine aunts, Lillie Crawford, Gwendolyn (Clarence) Gordey, Charlene Edmonds, Jacqueline (Larry) Screws, Kathleen (Herman) Mitchell, Ann (Curtis) Jackson, Sharm (Frankie) Messer, Sharon (Junior) Hicks, and Kathy (Marvin) Barnes; one uncle, Kenneth (Crystal) Barnes, Sr., and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends. For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:6-7
