OBITUARY Mr. Vance LaSalle Brown, affectionately known as “Papa,” peacefully transitioned from Earth to Heaven at 62 years on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. Vance was born to Clarence Brown and Bettye Walker Brown on October 5, 1959, in Belle Glade, Florida. Vance was educated in the School District of Palm Beach County, graduating from Glades Central Community High School in 1977. He began his college career at Bethune-Cookman College, later transferring to Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). In 1984, he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education. He remained a passionate supporter of his beloved alma mater, always encouraging others to attend. Vance was inducted into the Alpha Eta Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated during the fall of 1983, where he was a member of a national championship step team. He was also a member of the Epicurean Fashion Experience at FAMU. Vance worked with the School District of Palm Beach County and his father in various capacities. He also served the community as a volunteer little league football coach. Although a shy individual, Vance had a unique sense of humor, a quiet intellect, and a particular interest in history. Vance was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Church of God in Christ and willingly completed any task given by his pastor. He faithfully supported the work of the ministry through tithe and offering. Vance married his high school sweetheart, Teketa Lockett-Brown, whom he loved dearly. They shared 34 years of holy matrimony. This union was blessed with two children: Vanisha and Vionni. He was a proud and supportive father and grandfather. Additionally, Vance took special pleasure in engaging in outdoor activities with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Teketa Lockett-Brown, his father, Superintendent Clarence Lee Brown, Jr., his mother, Mrs. Bettye Walker McClean, and his sister, Mrs. Sheryl Walker Slade.
