Leroy Benson Brown, the son of Leroy Brown and the late Nannie Pendleton Brown, was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He received his formal education in the Harrisburg School District and graduated with honors in 1976 from Harrisburg High School. Junnie, as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, was reared as a member of Christ Gospel Temple Apostolic Church where he discovered his love for music. He enjoyed singing and playing the trumpet and often performed with local groups. Leroy enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1980 and attended the Avionics School. He served in the military for four years and was stationed in Tucson, Arizona. After returning home Leroy was employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania where he worked for over 20 years. He was the first African American to work as an Architectural Designer in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Leroy’s favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed sports and was especially happy when his beloved Eagles won the super bowl in 2018. The true loves of his life were his sons, Andre and Chris Brown and his daughter, Lynette Whitehead whom he shared his love of sports and whom he was most proud of. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one of his sisters, Constance Collins and one of his brothers, John Blackstone. Leroy’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his beloved children: Andre Brown and his wife, Arianne Brown; Christopher Brown and Lynette Whitehead; his sisters: Sarah Henderson and husband, Marc and Diane Jenkins; his brothers: Michael Brown, Franklin Brown, Anthony Burnette and Michael Payne. Leroy’s life will be celebrated on Friday, March 4 in the Chapel of the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton with Visitation at 2 p.m. followed by Memorial Services at 3 p.m. Live Streaming of the service will be available on the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home’s YouTube page. COVID-19 Guidelines will be observed with face masks for all attendees.
