Obituary For Ronnie Floyd Benson

BENSON, Ronnie Floyd age 69 of McDonough, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022. The Graveside Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 10AM in the National Cemetery, Canton, GA.

Maj. Ronnie Floyd Benson (Ret), 69, entered eternal rest on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at his home in McDonough, Georgia. He was born on August 19,1952 to Floyd and Marie Benson of Forrest City, Arkansas. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1970, and attended the University of Arkansas in Pine Bluff, where he was a member of Kappa Kappa Psi and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy.

Ronnie entered the United States Army in 1974 and served for 20 years. He was an officer in the 5th Special Forces Airborne, an elite U.S. Army unit. He was also a Gulf War Veteran. Ronnie received many medals and commendations throughout his military service, such as: the Meritorious Service, Army Commendation, Joint Service Achievement, Army Achievement, National Defense Service, Southwest Asia Service, Humanitarian Service, and Kuwait Liberation medals, some of which he’d received more than once. He also received Master Parachutist and Combat Infantryman badges, and more. His service often took him to different countries, such as Panama, where he met his late wife, Eneida Adriana Ellington Benson, with whom he had two daughters.

Ronnie is survived by his two daughters, Twana (Ely) and Rhonda, and four grandchildren, Isaac, Anna, Noah and Micah. He is also survived by his brother, Ricky (Christine), and sisters Linda and Janice.

Dad, you were strong and brave as you stood for your country, and we honor your life and service. We love and miss you. Rest in peace in the comforting arms of our Lord.
