Betty Poppe

04/07/1936 - 03/13/2022

Mrs. Betty Jo Poppe, 85, of Greensburg, KY left her earthly bounds to receive her Heavenly reward at Norton's Women & Children's Hospital in Louisville on March 13, 2022.

Betty was a fiery red-head from Big Clifty, Kentucky. The only child of Omer K. and Ursa Marie Shain, she was a devoted wife to Hans G. Poppe Sr. for fifty-two years. She was a wonderful and proud mother and doting grandmother. The only thing she loved more than her family was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a devoted member of New River Worship Center and she also attended New Journey Church in Campbellsville. She enjoyed Church activities, prayer groups, reading her bible, and fellow shipping with other members. She was a constant witness for Christ's blessings to all. Her unwavering faith was a testament to her strong commitment to her biblical life. With her ever-present smile and positive outlook she was truly a blessing to everyone she met.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one aunt, Dorothy Townsend and cousin, Louise Townsend.

She is survived by her husband, Hans G. Poppe, Sr. of Greensburg, KY; one son, Hans G. Poppe, Jr. (Jeri) of Prospect, KY, one granddaughter Téa Poppe of Prospect, KY, one nephew, Billy Townsend of Louisville, and countless others who considered her to be their surrogate mother, especially the Smith family of Greensburg, KY who cared for her until her death (Gerald, Judy, Jamain, Keke, and Jamicheal).

Funeral service will be 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Percell & Sons Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10 am.

Burial will be in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, we ask instead that you consider a donation to the food banks or missionary funds for New Journey and New River or, if you prefer, simply do something nice for somebody else unexpectedly, and without explanation. In remembrance of her life-long dedication to Christ and charity, please include prayers for world peace and for the homeless in your daily prayers. May her memory be a blessing.
