Samuel Lee Barnett (affectionately known as Sam, Sammie Lee) was born on September 1, 1940, in York, South Carolina to the late Marion and Bessie Barnett. He departed this life on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at his home in Gastonia, North Carolina. He retired as an Insurance Agent from Liberty Life Insurance Company after 45 years in the insurance industry. He attended Fayetteville State University until he was drafted into the United States Army in Vietnam in 1965. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Gastonia, North Carolina for over 60 years. Sam formerly served as Superintendent of the Adult Sunday School Department, a member of the Men’s choir, and before his health declined, he was an active church trustee and a member of Golden Years Seniors. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters; Mamie Meeks, Mary Cannon, Pearlene Smith, Louise Hardy, and Sadie Patton, two brothers; James Barnett, and Marion Barnett. He was a loving father, pawpaw, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved God and his family. He leaves to cherish his loving memories his daughter, Lesley Brown (Tony), of Lawrenceville, Georgia, three grandchildren, Ivy Fischer of Atlanta, Georgia, Trent Brown of West Point, New York, and Joshua Brown of Lawrenceville, Georgia; two sisters; Ida Mae Barnett of High Point, North Carolina and Sarah Powell of Gastonia, North Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Viewing at the funeral home on Thursday; March 17, 2022 from 4 until 7

Funeral on Friday; March 18, 2022 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Gastonia at 1:00 with thirty minute visitation before the service at the church

Interment: Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia
