Mr. John Pinkney Jones was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Ophelia Bell Jones in Albany, Georgia on April 30, 1927. John attended school in the Albany, Georgia public school system. He received his letter of Greetings from the United States Army in April, 1945. Prior to leaving for the military, John was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Geneva Joyce Holt Jones. He honorably served in the U.S. Army for twenty-seven years, receiving a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, and other military honors. SFC John P. Jones was nicknamed “Sarge” by many, but everyone knew him as “Pank” or “Daddy Pank”. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Drill Sergeant. After the military, Pank was a supervisor for Bob’s Candies, Inc. and later retired. His work ethic was present as he later continued to work and at Lowes, etc. His early past times were boxing, car repair and yard work.

John gave his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at St Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia where he was ordained a Deacon under the leadership of Pastor R.W. Jordan. He served on many ministries: Deacon Board, Trustee Board, Male Chorus, and the Senior Choir. He loved praising GOD in song! He also enjoyed his duties as the groundskeeper of the church cemetery for many years. Pank was a living testimony of a devoted patriarch, server to God, country, family, and friends.

Our kind, gentle and strong soldier, John P. Jones, our “Daddy Pank”, peacefully departed this earthly home surrounded by his children on March 24, 2022. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his wife of seventy-three years, Geneva Joyce Jones, nineteen siblings, and a grandson, Kenobi A. Jones. Pank leaves to cherish him his children, Carol Jackson, Gil Jones, Sr. (Zatambra), and Kathy McCray; his grandchildren, Erika Underwood (Gary Jacobson) of Warner Robins, Georgia, Derika Keys (Brady, III) of Orlando, Florida, Onika Munford, Alex Jones, both of Albany, Georgia, Gil Jones, Jr (Shenna), Brandon Jones, both of Atlanta, Georgia, Keoni Wray of San Jose, California; seven great grandchildren; his sisters-in-love, Mildred Sweet of Hillside, New Jersey and Linda Robinson of Albany, Georgia; a brother-in-love, CSM James "Knucklehead" Nelson, Jr. (Patricia) of Atlanta, Georgia; several nieces, and nephews, family, loved ones and friends.
