Obituary For Mary Tyroshia Martin

Mary Tyroshia Martin transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on Friday, March 25, 2022, at SOVAH Health-Martinsville. Born May 1, 1953, in Virginia, she was the daughter of Raymond Leon Hairston, Sr. and Delores Moyer Hairston who preceded her in death.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, John, and Mary Moyer; her paternal grandparents, Sam Willie, and Elizabeth Hairston; one sister, Theresa “Twink” Hairston; one brother, Frederick Hairston; brothers-in-law, James R. Penn, and Pastor Mark E. Price, Sr.; special uncle, Maurice Hairston; and other uncles, and aunts.

Mary was a lifelong member of the Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church, where she was a member of the choir, group #7, color committee, and the kitchen committee. She retired from Bassett Walker Knitting Company after 25 years of service, and from Team Nurse. She then worked as a private duty nurse until her health declined.

She had a gift of help, a true gift from God. She loved serving people. She would feed anyone, no one was ever turned away. She loved her family and people in general. She had a heart of gold.

Those left to cherish her memory include: her husband, Carter Hammond Martin of the home; one daughter, Tyroshelle Martin Yates, and her husband, Timothy Yates of Martinsville, VA; one son, Franco Xavier Martin, and his wife, Lasandra Martin of Martinsville, VA and a nephew/son De'Angelo Wilson of Martinsville, VA; four grandchildren, Ian Martin, and Jasmine Agee both of Martinsville, VA, Keivon Broadnax of Eden, NC and Dillon Wilson; three sisters, Ann M. Penn, Olga D. Hairston, and Rose M. Price all of Martinsville, VA; two brothers, Raymond L. Hairston, and his wife, Nancy, and Joseph L. Hairston, and his wife, Candis both of Martinsville, VA; sister-in-law, Miyoshie Hairston of Martinsville, VA; two aunts, Annette Dalton of Loraine, OH, and Mary Moyer of Ridgeway, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held Friday, April 1, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. until 12 noon, at the Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church, 933 Bethel Lane, Martinsville, VA. Funeral services will begin at 12 noon at the Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church with Renado Hairston, Eulogist. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required. All other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home, 1000 Williams St., Martinsville, VA. The family ask that when visiting the home, that you would please observe all CDC guidelines.
