James Lee Brown

10/09/1947 - 03/27/2022

Family what I imagained as a relief came to me so peacefully on March 27, 2022. It appeared I was miserable, but I understand it was part of my transition.

I was born on October 9, 1947, in Sallis, MS to A.D. Brown and Estelle Roundtree Brown whp preceded me in death. My son Keith Somerville; siblings, Douglas Brown, Earlean Cooper, Mattie Lewis and A.C. Brown also preceded me in death.

I confessed my life to Christ at an early age and joined Hillspring M.B. Church in Attala County, MS.

I moved to Gary, IN and made that my home. I worked at U.S. Steel for many years until U.S. Steel started downsizing and phasing out jobs.

When I moved back to Mississippi in 1985, I worked for Ivey Mechanical until retirement.

I was a master of many trades especially cabinetry and farming. I loved to watch things grow. I also loved working in my cabinet shop.

I am survived by my wife, Portia Simon Brown; daughter, Annquenetta Simon Brown; sisters, Lillie Wright, Durant, MS; Annie Smith and Katie Brown of Gary, Indiana; three grandchildren, Job, Chunta, and Tutu. Three first cousins who were my brothers.

L.C. Covington, Harvey Covington (Joyce), Will Covington (Jean) all of Kosciusko, MS; mother-in-law, Pauline Bryant; two brothers-in-law, Eldredge Simon, Jr. and Dwayne Simon of Morton, MS and a host nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Remember Family, I could not breath, but I do not hurt now. I have no more sleepless nights. I do not hurt now, no more chest pain. I do not hurt now. I found someone to ease my pain. Just remember, I do not hurt now, no not now.
