LIFE AND LEGACY

Mother Essie Lee Almon began her life of service on October 18,1931, to the parentage of the Late Frank and Lillian Almon in Ohatchee, Alabama. Although Essie was not a biological mother, she was the eldest of 7 siblings and one of the eldest cousins. Essie soon took on the affectionate name “Aunt Essie,” and the role of a mother figure to numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and so many other generations.

Essie Lee attended the Bruntonville School in Bruntonville, AL. She spent her years dearly close to her mother Lillian, picking cotton and housekeeping. It was then Essie gained her passion for gardening, flowers, and cooking for her family.

Essie Lee was a faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Wellington, AL., and served in various capacities until her health declined. She spent her years devoted to service by serving God; and being a care-taker for her mother Lillian, sister Ollie, and aunt Lillie Mae until their passing.

Essie completed her assignment of service on April 1, 2022, when she transitioned from labor to reward. “Well done thy good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Lord”. Matthew 25:23 She was preceded in death by: her mother and father Lillian and Frank Almon, sisters Florence Almon, Virginia Elston, and Ollie Frazier, brothers Willie and James Almon, brothers in law Collie Chatman and Byron Frazier.

Essie Lee will always be cherished in the hearts of her sister Dovie Chatman; sisters in law, Priscilla Almon and Edna Almon. A special niece Frieda Russell (Ray) and her children. A devoted cousin, caretaker, and daughter figure, Annie Joe Kirby (Dan). A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and community friends.
