LIFE AND LEGACY

Mr. Sherwood Bertram Walker (affectionately called “Tree”) was born May 16, 1960, in Gadsden, Alabama, to Willie Walker, Jr. and Clessie M. Walker. He attended school in the Gadsden Public School system. He later studied upholstery at Gadsden State Technical College and graduated with his diploma in carpentry. As a youth, he dedicated his life to Christ and joined First Baptist Church of East Gadsden under the leadership of Rev. Gabriel Cook.

Sherwood was well-known throughout Green Pasture as a dependable friend willing to help his family, friends, and neighbors in need. He loved his music and barbecue (and so did everyone else!). His giftedness was in free-hand drawing and carpentry. His easy-going and free-spirited attitude made everyone around him feel loved! In addition, he was a father figure to many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, two brothers: Willie R. Maxwell and LaVaughn Maxwell Sears, and nephew, Frederick Andrea Walker, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory: mother, Clessie M. Walker, Gadsden, AL; three brothers: Harold (Christy) Maxwell and Frederick Walker, Gadsden, AL and Eric (Tommie) Maxwell, Dayton, OH; three sisters: Sharon (Byron) Kirkland, Gadsden, AL, Mattie Lee and Toni Walker, Marietta, GA; sister-in-law Muriel Maxwell, Columbia, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
