Hazel was educated in Robeson County public schools and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Barber-Scotia College, Concord North Carolina. She pledged Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. After graduation, Hazel began teaching in Fairmont, NC and retired as an elementary school teacher in the Anson County School system.
Upon marriage to Maxter E. Allen, Sr. they built their home in Rowland North Carolina. Not too long after Maxter was offered a job as Principal in Ansonville, North Carolina where they established their new home. Hazel was an active community member and served in various roles as President of the National Organization of University Women, Past Grand Worthy Matron of Chapter 525 OES, PHA, Wadesboro, North Carolina. She volunteered with Boy Scouts of America, and always traveled with her family and friends around the US.
Hazel was a believer and continued her faith in God with her husband at Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Rowland, North Carolina as a dedicated deaconess under Rev. Samuel McCormick.
She married Maxter Ernest Allen, Sr. who preceded her in death, on July 3, 1949. She is also preceded in death by two brothers: Howard and Albert Foxworth and one sister Inez Page. They were loving parents to Jacqueline Nanette (Richard) Ezzell of Mesa, Arizona, Maxter E. Allen, Jr. of Winston Salem, NC, Andre De’Mon Allen of Kansas City, Kansas and Kiara Allen Cox of Mint Hill, NC.
A legacy of love, adoration and fond memories will always be treasured by her grandchildren: Kristen (Shae), Nikkara (Daryl), Kathryn (deceased), Erin Amanda, Maxter III (Tre’), Chandra, Jacia (Omar), Keely, Charles III (Chaz), Kaylan, Karin, Willliam, Kierah and (cousin grandson) Jacob; great grandchildren: Jordan, Neisha, Brittany, Travon, Kindsey, Sarai, Skylar, Naomi, L’Oreal, Ayden, Andrea, Kristina, Krystal, and Ellianna; and nieces and nephews.
The Services to Honor the Life and Legacy of Mother Allen will be on Saturday, April 16, 2022, 12:00 noon, in the Chapel of Smith's Funeral Home, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina.
Mother Allen will be interned beside her loving husband, the late Mr. Maxter E. Allen Sr. in the family plot of Barringer Chapel AME Zion Church Cemetery, Norwood, North Carolina.
The Allen Family will greet family and friends on Saturday, April 16, 2022 from 11:30am-12:00pm at Smith's Memorial Chapel.
The public viewing for Mother Allen will be on Friday, April 15, 2022 from 4:30-6:30pm.
