Obituary For Mr. John Robert McAllister

Obituary Mr. John Robert McAllister was born on May 11, 1935, in Rowland, NC to the late Daniel Webster McAllister and the late Rosa Bell Platt McAllister. Robert, as he was affectionately known, attended Southside High School in Rowland, NC. He was united in holy wedlock to Annie Mae Graham McAlister, the love of his life, on March 17, 1963. To this union, four children were born. Robert was converted at an early age and joined Mt. Pleasant AME (Cotton Valley) Church in Rowland, NC, where he served faithfully. He served on the Steward Board for nearly 50 years, Trustee Board 50 years, the Building Fund Committee for 50 years and lastly, Sunday School Superintendent nearly 50 years. Robert loved his church and served faithfully in many capacities. Many Saturdays he could be found mowing the lawn and making repairs at the church. Robert loved to sing. His favorite songs were Hymns. He loved sitting in his lounge chair, under his pecan tree’s singing. From time to time he’d migrate in the house to sing and play the piano. No, he wasn’t a pianist, just good at pretending. The family will miss him joking and picking. He had a great sense of humor! Additionally, we’ll miss his wisdom on world affairs, finances, and sharing stories of his days share-cropping. He told both the funniest and saddest stories you ever want to hear. He’d then back his stories up with scriptures. He would talk about the Bible in a way that would make you want to research and read it for yourself. We are so grateful that our family was blessed to have him as our own. Watching boxing television and sitting around the square table will never be the same. Preceding him in death: his beloved wife, Annie Mae McAllister of 58 years; one sister, Annie Mae McAllister Livingston; two brothers, Webster McAllister and James Willie McAllister; son: Bobby Gene McAllister, and six grandchildren, Anthony Jermaine McAllister, Bobby Montrey McAllister, Jazmine Adore McAllister, Jamison Preston Pernell, Christopher Rondell McAllister, Jr., and Quincey Fulmore. Robert will be remembered and forever loved by his six children: James McAllister of Florence, SC, Edward (Betty) Graham of Red Spring, NC, Robert Anthony (Linda) McAllister, Cynthia (Sheriff Douglas) Pernell, Steven McAllister, all from Dillon, SC, and Christopher (Elizabeth) McAllister of Timmonsville, SC; one sister: Ida Frances McDougal, Lumberton, NC.; one sister-in-law, Sally Mae Winslow of Rowland, NC, one brother-in-law, William Graham of Fairmont, NC; 31 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren, an adopted granddaughter, Nikki Smutherman of Charlotte. NC. Friends: Mr. Gary Hanna and Mr. Roy Carmichael. Special thanks to his Healthcare Team: Dr. Timothy Fitzgibbon and Sandra, Sherry Brown, Martha “Mott” German and McLeod Hospice.

I met Mr John years ago while I worked at CVS, Mr John was always lively in conversation and his favorite phrase was " Let's go to Riverdale " . This is a sad occasion but the memories of him and the lessons he taught and words of wisdom shared will always be a part of the ones who knew him. May you find peace in these sad times but remember the resurrection hope of Jesus Christ as he died for us and the resurrection to come. MARY Thomas
