A native of Jackson County, she was the Jehovah faith and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She attended and graduated from the public schools of Jackson County. She furthered her education at Florida A&M University graduating with a BSN degree in nursing, MSN from Chicago State University and continued at St. Francis School of Nursing in Peoria, Illinois receiving training and certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. A legacy of love and memories will forever remain with two daughters, Wanda Williams and Wendy Gibson and husband Terry both of Marianna, Florida; two step sons, Rhodell Fields and wife Syble of Springfield, Maryland and Richie Fields of Union City, Georgia; seven grandchildren: Bethany Williams, Philadelphia, PA, Rebekah (Rico) Williams, Marianna, FL, Sarina Sapp, Manvel, TX, Olivia Williams, Marianna, FL, Michelle (Winifred) Schelly of Douglasville, GA, Jessica Williams, Marianna, FL and Michael Jason Jones, Tallahassee, FL; she was blessed with many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a beloved nephew, Lamar Johnson, Southern California; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Grandma is known as ‘Cheatney’. I’m sure there is a story behind that name! She enjoyed gardening when able and loved for a good looking man to smile at her. Loved to hear Al Green and Barry White sing. She enjoyed social gatherings in their Chicago basement which was a social hub (Q’s house) for Florida families and friends.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held Friday, April 22nd, starting with a viewing at 1p.m. and the discourse at 2p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home Chapel, Brother Linwood Dickens presiding. Memorialization will be by cremation with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.

I always admired Ms. Cheatney as a beautiful and classy lady, and I always felt loved by her. She always had a beautiful smile of content whether she was cleaning the house or working in her garden. And by the way, her flower garden was so lovely, you could have hosted a tea party from it. She will be missed. We send our love, and we pray God gives comfort to the family.
