Obituary For Mr. Harrison Gene Blackwell

FARRELL A homegoing celebration in honor of Mr. Harrison Blackwell will be held Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 10am at Greater Mt. Zion COGIC, 1825 Roemer Blvd. in Farrell, PA. Mr. Harrison Gene Blackwell of Farrell, PA, transitioned into eternal rest on Saturday, April 16th, 2022 at the Addison Healthcare Center, Masury, OH, surrounded by his loving and devoted family. He was 88 years old. Mr. Blackwell was born December 12, 1933 in Sharon, PA, a son of James and Mother Louis Blackwell. He was a 1951 graduate of Farrell High School. He attended Toledo University College. Later, Harrison joined the Army, where he was head of their Police Department. He was employed at Sharon Steel in the Utilities Department until his retirement. On February 22, 1958, Harrison married his love and best friend, Doretha Huntley Blackwell. They were married for 45 years, until her passing on September 19, 2003. Harrison was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed going out to dinner, golfing and shopping. Harrison leaves to cherish his legacy three sons, Harrison, Jr. (Elaine) Blackwell of Arizona, Robert (Stephanie) Blackwell of Indiana and Darren L. (Teresa) Blackwell of Farrell, PA; one daughter, Carmella A. Blackwell-Williams of San Diego, CA; a beloved brother, Robert Blackwell of Hermitage, PA; and a sister, Rilla Blackwell of Austintown, OH; six loving grandchildren, Dominique X. Blackwell of Arizona, Brandyn D. Blackwell, of Hermitage, PA, De’JaNique M. Blackwell of San Diego, CA, Derrick L. Blackwell of Farrell, PA, Durrell K. Blackwell of Farrell, PA and Robbie Blackwell of Indianapolis, IN; three great-granddaughters, Diaminique Blackwell, Aniya Blackwell and Ra’Kiya Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. He was preceded by his parents, James and Mother Louise Blackwell; his wife, Doretha Blackwell; two brothers, William “Billy” Blackwell and James Blackwell; a beloved sister, Myrtle Bryant; an infant sister, Flora Mae Blackwell; and a son-in-law, Carletis Williams. The family will receive friends Saturday April 23, 2022 from 9am-10am at the church. Please continue to follow CDC recommendations by wearing a mask and practice social distancing. Interment will be in Morefield Cemetery Hermitage,Pa.
