Martha Ann Banfield, 81, was born on August 11, 1940 and took her eternal rest the morning of Monday, April 18, 2022. Martha is the daughter of Emily J. Nicholson and Vander Marshall. She was raised by her grandparents, Janie and Marshall Williams, in Fuquay Varina, whom she affectionately referred to as “Momma” and “Poppa”. After completing high school, Martha attended North Carolina Central University and for a time lived in New York and Pennsylvania, before returning to North Carolina to raise her family. Although a tad stubborn at times, Martha had a big heart and loved most everyone she ever met. She possessed an infectious laugh that made one feel at home when they heard it. Martha is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and her daughter, Erika R. Arrington. She is survived by her two sons, Steven W. Arrington (Jennifer) and Victor L. Banfield, five grandchildren, Eric B. Arrington, Jessica R. Arrington, Benjamin K. Arrington, Asa C. Arrington and Aiden Q. Arrington, and three great-grandchildren. Martha is also survived by her brother, James W. Marshall (Alice), a sister, Selina Jordan, two nephews, Michael A. Marshall and Marshall D. Nicholson (Miranda), three nieces, Emily J. Bailey, Tyarra A. Carlton (Perry) and Lydia D. Bailey, and a host of other beloved relatives and devoted friends.

Visitation and Funeral services will be held at Fisher Memorial United Holy Church of America 420 E Piedmont Ave Durham, NC on Saturday, April 23, 2022, visitation service from 11:00 to 12:00 PM and funeral service follow at 12:00PM. Burial will follow at Holly Springs Cemetery.
