I met Roy as the nurse caring for his mother years ago. He was working for Microfiber. We became very close friends. He was like family to my family. My son says he was thankful for teaching him how to be a gentleman. Roy loved laughter, politics, baseball, eating and going to funerals (lol). I would ask him why do you go to all the funerals? Like once, a random waitress that served him food at local restaurant. He would say "you gotta show your respect". Roy also loved me, he would tell that all the time. He said, "if I was 20yrs younger I would have a chance to marry you ". I said, you're right and smiled. We had a lot of good memories together and I am most great full. He never would want me to know or see him sick, that was Roy. He would return my calls after feeling better. To Phyllis and the family, may God bless you. I may have lost my gentleman but God had given me an angel (Roy). Letha

Dear Simmons Family, I was very sorry to hear of Roy Lee's passing. I have known Roy practically all my life as he was a customer at my family's dry cleaners for as long as I can remember. Not a week went by that Roy didn't come in to drop off or pick up clothes and it was always a pleasure seeing him. He never met a stranger and always had a smile, a kind word and a laugh for every one he met. My whole family thought the world of Roy and my sister and I still remember him as always being a kind soul in our lives. Bob Hope said it best "thanks for the memories." God speed old friend! I met Roy when I worked at McLean Trucking company my senior year in high school. I tripped and fell he came behind me and helped pickup my belongings. Our paths continued to cross as he hung out with my then cousins in law, Dennis and John L. Hairston. When I worked at Burlington Industries, Roy was my supervisor. Roy had a reputation of taking a lady out on first class dates. Between marriages I went on one of those dates and it was the nicest date that I ever had. He was truly a gentleman. We continued being friends even from afar. I always teased him about when he would be marrying his nurse friend. My condolences to the family and especially to his niece Phyllis whom he loved dearly.
