From James Lowery, affectionately known as Bootsy. Bill and I were raised by our mothers and grandmothers, his mom Ms. Goldy and mine Odessa, Mrs. Kiser his grandmother and mine Hattie Gaddy. I'm sending my deepest regrets and condolences for the lost of your dad and my best friend. Some may say we were more like brothers than best friends. We shared a very close relationship; we went to grade school together, we went into military service about the same time, we got married about the same time, our children were about the same ages but he had more than me( no contest here) we were discharged from military about the same time for the same thing (health reasons). We worked at the Post Office around about the same time; dog gone it we had the same number of marriages! Some said we acted like an old married couple. The Bible does says,"there is a friend that will stick closer than a brother," Bill was mine. We always had each other's back. I remember when we use to go exercise together, until he got sick, the people in the gym wanted to be there to watch us entertain them. I would speed up his machines! Then I would tell him, Hey I got you running like Mercury Morris and moon walking like Michael Jackson! We talked everyday. If you knew Bill, you know it just wasn't enough of him to go around. Now to the children: I know you all loved him for I have loved Bill for over 60 years, so I have some idea of how you are feeling right now. In life we are only given one mother and one father; we as children should make everyday count with those God has given us to provide and care for us. Nothing beats a parent's love for their children! Life sometimes strains our family bonds and situations can get difficult; we only have one life to live. We should never let the sun go down on our anger for eternal rest is around the corner for us all. Your dad and I had a special relationship and I would like to thank you all for sharing him with me. AND Von, his sister, I didn't forget you! You thought you were our mom! Thank you for trying to keep us straight! My Final Words are for Sergeant E5 Roger Caruthers: "You have guarded everything in the limits of your post, you may now quit your post."
