Obituary For Harold Hassell

Harold Levy Hassell of Wellington, Florida entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 10, 2022 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He was born to the late Oscar M. Hassell and Thelma Montford Hassell in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and baptized at Tenth Memorial Baptist Church in Philadelphia at an early age. He was educated in the Philadelphia School System, graduating from Simon Gratz High School. He attended Temple University, majoring in Computer Science. In the Community, Harold was a Prince Hall Mason and a member of St. John Lodge # 44. He was also a member of DeMolay Consissiory #1, where he received his Thirty Second Degree. In 1992, he was united in holy matrimony to Geneva “Jenny” Pettis-Hassell, his wife of 30 years. In 2017, Harold and Jenny relocated to Wellington, Florida, where they spent their retirement years in the sun, near the beach and ocean that they both loved. Harold served both in the United States Army and retired honorably from the United States Coast Guard as Petty Officer 1st Class after 26 years of honorable service. He was also employed in Technical Services as a Systems Engineering Manager for Verizon Communications, Inc. and retired with 32 years of service. Harold was a subject matter expert in Global IT Infrastructure Monitoring. He owned and operated Probe IT Solutions providing technology consulting services to Fortune 500 Companies and Universities. He loved all the Philadelphia sports teams and had a passion for boating, golfing, photography and classic cars. Harold had a lifelong love of the ocean and spent hours skippering his beloved Sea Ray 310 Sundancer, “Swiss Movement”. He was affectionately known as “Boats” to his shipmates and Captain #700 to his wife’s friends. He also showed his prized 1968 Camaro SS in local Florida auto shows. He had a passion for excellence and always completed a task or hobby with expert care. Harold’s greatest joy was his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Oscar M Hassell, Jr. He leaves to cherish memories of him and to celebrate his life and legacy; his beloved and devoted wife, Geneva “Jenny” Pettis-Hassell; his daughter, Dr. Kelly N. Hassell of Ft Collins, Colorado; his son, Kristofer D. Hassell of Los Angeles, California; his sister, Gloria J. Staten (Leroy) of Camden, Delaware and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. He will also be remembered by his lifelong friends, colleagues, shipmates and those who knew, loved and admired him as a consummate gentleman. Harold’s life will be celebrated on Friday, April 29 at 11:30 AM in the Sanctuary of Living Water Community Church at 206 Oakleigh Ave., Harrisburg, PA 17111 with Visitation 11:00 until 11:30 AM and burial in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. COVID-19 Guidelines will be observed with face masks for all attendees.
