Obituary For Mattie Mae Lee

Mattie Mae Lee departed this life to her heavenly home on Friday, April 22, 2022. She is preceded in death by her father Jessie Lee Brown; mother, Mammie Brown; seven brothers; Benny Brown, Sammie Brown, Bunny Brown, Kerry Brown, Lewis Brown, Lammie Brown, and Joseph Brown.

The visitation begins at 10 am on Saturday, April 30, 2022, followed by an 11:00 am service at St. Peter Baptist Church located at 1320 South Market Street, Pascagoula, Mississippi.

Mattie was born on October 9, 1925. in Monroeville, Alabama. She was one of eight children (seven boys and one girl). After the death of her father, Mattie and her family moved to Canoe, Alabama where she met and married the late Tom Sydney Lee. The couple became proud parents of five beautiful children; Freddie Lee Brown, Moss Point, MS, Lena Jones, Nashville, TN, Ephron Lee (Cynthia) Biloxi, MS, Willie Edward Lee (Theresa) Escatawpa MS, and Carolyn Lee (Ronnie) Vancleave, MS. Mattie Lee was always a hard-working individual, helping to provide for her family, and as a young adult, she went to Pensacola, Florida to work with her brothers as a cook at Regis Paper Mill.

In 1960 she moved to Moss Point, MS where she was employed for 22 years by Ingalls Shipbuilding. Mattie joyfully retired in 1997.

My heart is very saddened at the loss of Ms Mattie. Growing up next door to her and her family, I didn't know we weren't related. She was truly one of the sweetest people I've ever known.
