Obituary For Ruben Rankin

Mr. Ruben Rankin, son of the late Mack and Louise Rankin, was born October 11, 1946, in Mt. Holly, North Carolina and departed this life Monday evening, April 25, 2022, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, MacArthur Rankin and Lewis Rankin.

He joined New Providence Baptist Church at an early age.

Ruben graduated with the Class of 1965 from Reid H.S. Belmont, North Carolina. He worked for Yorkshire America Lowell, North Carolina for 27 years. Also, during this time, he earned a diploma in Bricklaying from Gaston College, Dallas, North Carolina in May 1985 and he attended Cleveland Community College, Shelby, North Carolina and received certification in Auto Body Repair in August 2006. He was a member of the original Mt. Holly Q.C.s organized in the 1960s and he also helped to organize the Travelers of Faith and The Wings of Faith.

"Mr. Ruben" as many younger people fondly called him, was very creative. He loved singing, playing his guitar and communing with nature. Some of his favorite songs were "I'm Gonna Walk the Milky White Way", Wonderful", "Resting Easy" and Sam Cooke's A Change is Gonna Come".

Ruben is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Joy. To this union they were blessed with a son, Ruben Curtis Rankin of Gastonia, NC; one sister, Jennie Gillespie of Mt Holly, NC, three brothers, Walter Rankin (Jackie) of Charlotte, NC, Angelo Rankin and Jessie Rankin of Mt. Holly, NC, twenty-one nieces, fifteen nephews, twenty-one great nieces, fourteen great nephews, four great-great nieces, fourteen great-great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends

Viewing at the funeral home on Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 5 until 7

Funeral on Sunday; May 1, 2022 at New Providence Baptist Church, Mt. Holly at 1:15

Visitation will be at 12:30 at the church

Interment: Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Mt. Holly

He will always be remembered as good and a good friend to me every since I joined his family by marrying his niece Lydia. He also loved and honored our 3 sons, Justin, Cornell and Gaired.
