Earnest Porter, Jr.

Earnest Porter was on born April 27, 1925 to the late Earnest Sr. and Sallie Hines Porter in Tallahassee, FL.

Earnest's mother Sallie died when he was one and a half years old, and was raised by his mother's twin brother Frank and his wife Sallie Porter Hines. His family moved from Tallahassee when he was in his early teens. He attended school in St. Lucie County. Earnest joined the Army at 18 years old and served in World War II. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart after being wounded in the war. Earnest worked for the Veteran Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut for nearly 40 years. Earnest enjoyed visiting family and loved to fish.

Earnest met and later married the late Geneva Jenkins in November 1951; at Geneva's death they were married 53 years.

Earnest was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars: Post 9991 of Connecticut, the Purple Association and the local American Legion with brothers Charles, Frank and Hardie Hines and brother-in-law Charlie Killings. Earnest attend the Church of God with wife Geneva.

Earnest made his transition on Sunday April 24, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva; birth parents, Earnest and Sallie Hines Porter; adopted parents, Frank and Sallie Porter Hines; brothers, Charles Hines, Hardy Hines, Frank Hines Jr. and Joseph Laster Jr.; sisters, Maggie Coleman, Louise Jackson, Katie Jackson, Annie Lee Jenkins, Catherine Killings, Rosetta Johnson, and Elnora Reed; brothers-in-law, Chester Coleman, Luscious Jackson, Nathaniel Jenkins, Charlie Killings, Walter Johnson, Jr., David Reed.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Shirley Hines Atkins (William) Sebastian, FL; sisters-in-law, Delores Hines (Charles), Connie Hines (Frank Jr.) both of Ft. Pierce; brother-in-law, James Jenkins; and two aunts, and a host of loving nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.

Public visitation for Earnest Porter, Jr. will take place on Thursday, May 5, 2022 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Stone Brothers Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, FL. Funeral services will convene on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Stone Brothers Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, FL beginning at 3:00pm. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
