Obituary For Annie Jo Calhoun

Home going celebration for Mrs. Annie Jo Calhoun of Alpine, 90, will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend Terry Wilson is the pastor. Reverend Theoangelo Perkins will deliver the eulogy. Interment will take place in Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery. Mrs. Calhoun will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2022, at the funeral home.

Annie Jo Calhoun was born on March 12, 1932, in Alpine, Alabama to the union of the late Sam Lawson and the late Eliza Moore Lawson.

At an early age, Annie joined Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Alpine, Alabama. Annie Jo was a home maker. She loved fishing and sewing. Annie was united in holy matrimony to the late James Edward “JC” Calhoun on October 26, 1947, and to this union eleven children were born and blessed with three.

On the morning of Sunday, May 8, 2022, Annie Jo departed this life at her home in Alpine, Alabama. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in passing by three sons, Harry Calhoun, Walter Calhoun and James Edward Calhoun, Jr.; and three brothers, Jathan Lawson, Lewis Moore and Jewell Lawson.

Mrs. Calhoun leaves to cherish her memories: six daughters, Mae Frances Jenkins of Munford, Alabama, Beverly (Tommy) Swain of Talladega, Alabama, Millerneace Swain of Alpine, Alabama, Janice (Andre) Phillips of Talladega, Alabama, Carolyn (Ken) Richmond of Alpine, Alabama and Tamela Calhoun of Lincoln, Alabama; five sons, John Henry (Brenda) Calhoun, Roger (Mae Francis) Calhoun and Perry (Annette) Calhoun of Alpine, Alabama, David Calhoun of Alpine, Alabama and Kendrick Young of Lincoln, Alabama; forty grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren; three sisters, Eliza Swain, Sara Williams and Ernestine Williams of Alpine, Alabama; two brothers, Frank Lawson and John Samuel Lawson of Alpine, Alabama; a daughter-in-law, Laura Calhoun of Talladega, Alabama; a special niece and caregiver, Sherry Calhoun of Alpine, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
