Alma Nichols Evans

07/09/1919 - 04/19/2022

Alma was born on July 9,1919, in Washington, GA (Wilkes County). Her parents were Henry (Born 1872) and Sallie (Burns) Nichols. From her parents' union, she was number seven out of 11 children (Lula, Gladys, Edna, Thelma, Isabella, George, Henry, Hosea, Robert, Agnes). However, her dad had a total of 22 children (including, Alene, Lela, Arthur, Eddie, Willie, Anna, Leather, Camille, Leonard, Ida, Ethel).

Alma left Washington, GA, at an early age to move with her older sister Lela Nichols-Quinn in Long Island, NY. At some point, she met and married Robert Evans, and the two settled in at 3944 Vine Vista Place, Cincinnati, OH. Alma spent many years working as a hospital aide for one of the hospitals under TriHealth Management.

After 60 years of marriage, Robert Evans passed away leaving Alma alone, frightened, and depressed in the home they once shared. As a result, her brother, Robert Nichols, moved her into his home in Cleveland, Oh., (around 2005) so that he could care for her.

Unfortunately, in 2011, her brother Robert became ill and no longer had the strength to care for Alma. It was with great difficulty that he made the decision to send her to a facility that would care for her well-being. Alma's new residence became ManorCare Euclid Beach in Cleveland, OH. After her brother passed in 2016, she was left in the care of her niece, Robbie Nichols-Smith.

As a child, Alma attended New Salem Baptist Church in Washington, GA. Alma truly came to know Jesus Christ while residing at the ManorCare nursing home. Not much is known about Alma because when asked about her past, she would say, "I've always been quiet and stayed to myself." One thing is for sure, she was a very kind, soft-spoken woman who never complained.

Alma remained at Manor Care until she moved into her heavenly home at the age of 102 on April 19, 2022 at 5: 17 p.m. Her parents and most brothers and sisters have preceded her in death. She leaves behind to mourn one sister, Agnes (Nichols) Reid, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Agnes was laid to rest on May 7, 20222, at 11 a.m., in the cemetery on the grounds of New Salem Baptist Church in Washington, Georgia.
