Joseph Clay Turner Jr. was born in Washington, DC on December 10, 1952, to Joseph Turner, Sr. and Fannie Mae Turner. “Joe” was a Spencer High School graduate class of 1971. He continued his education at the University of North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, NC. He was member of the Blue and Gold Marching Band.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force with the 644 Radar Squad. He retired from NCR as a Quality Control Engineer. Upon his retirement, he dedicated his time and talents to his church and serving his community.

As a devout Catholic, Joe blessed St. Benedict the Moore Catholic Church with his leadership and guidance. The Men of St. Benedict installed him as president of the Men’s club, where he helped to organize and steer several successful fundraisers for the church. He was a member of the choir and served in many capacities. He was always there when needed. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Gross Council 1019.

Joe loved working in his yard and his community garden. At harvest, he shared the fruits of his labor with his family and his friends. He was given the title “Pit Master” by his family for his mouth-watering ribs.

Joe knew how to touch the hearts of those he met along his journey. He knew how to clear the path of those who would come after him.

Surviving, yet feeling the loss is his loving wife, Maria Turner; stepchildren, Shajuanna and Michael Brannon; three grandchildren, Jonathan Justo, Kennedi Brannon and Jaylen Neal; two sisters-in law, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
