Ada Frances Mitchell Tatum was born on November 17, 1921, in Stokes County, North Carolina to the late Tom Mitchell and Jewel Mitchell. She grew up farming and babysitting her younger sister. She was never afraid of hard work but embraced it. She worked shortly at the Maple Grove Rest Home in Walkertown, NC but learned very quickly that her passion was taking care of her children.

Ada loved to fish and would take her children and grandchildren out on the banks for hours at a time on fishing trips. She enjoyed working in her garden and planting flowers. Many that knew her always knew where to find her. She would walk around her yard observing the fruits of her labor from sunup to sundown. Her passion for cooking was enjoyed not only be the family but anyone hat would stop by. There was always a hot plate in the kitchen.

Her biggest passion was her love for the Lord. She gave her life to Him at an early age and never looked back. She was a longtime member of the Church of the Living God in Kernersville, NC and eventually became one of the Mothers of the church. She devoted her life in the service of God and helping others to come to know the Man that she cherished so dearly. In return He gave her the gift of healing (1 Corinthians 12:9). Many came to her for prayer, she knows he would heal. In her words, “There is nothing too hard for the Lord”. The only thing that she asked for was to live long enough to see her children grown. He granted that and more. With 100 years of life that produced 5 generations of children that she touched, guided and blessed.

Ada was also preceded in death by her husband, John Tatum, Sr., a daughter, Evangelist Mary Golden, two sisters, Edith Penn and Myrtle Mitchell, three brothers, Bill Mitchell, Andrew Mitchell and Monroe Mitchell.

Ada leaves to cherish her memories: three children; Peggy Ijames (John), Deacon John Tatum, Jr. (Geraldine and Evangelist Sarah Goolsby (Isaac), her brother; Alfonso Mitchell (Isabella), sister-in-law; Annie Mae Mitchell, 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren, 1 great great great grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
