At an early age her family moved to Rebecca, Georgia, where they became devoted members at Piney Grove Baptist Church. Mineva graduated at the top of her class from Eureka High School in Ashburn, Georgia. On December 23, 1956, she married Elijah “Bobby” West, Jr. and to this union they were blessed with two daughters, Daisy and Myra. Mineva furthered her education and attended Ben-Hill Irwin Technical School where she earned a degree and began a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. As a devoted wife and mother, she sacrificed much for the well-being of her family. Mineva also worked as a substitute teacher and a personal nurse aide to many families in Ashburn. She gave of her time to outreach programs and touched many lives. Mineva was indeed a pillar in her community! Mineva joined her husband and became a member at Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church, in Sycamore Georgia, where she served over 50 years. She was a member of the Deaconess Board, the Mother Board, President of the Church Choir and worked on other auxiliaries. Sister West served as President of the First District Union Youth & Women’s Department for many years and President of the Little River Missionary Association Women’s Auxiliary for twenty years. After the passing of her husband, Sister West relocated to Stockbridge, Georgia, and soon united with the Mount Carmel Baptist Church in McDonough, Georgia, and served on the Mother’s Board, Women’s Ministry, and the Church Choir. Mineva’s health began to fail, and she became a resident at the Westbury Health Center. She was loved and admired by her fellow residents and the staff. In 2018, she received the award of Ms. Westbury Health Center! Sister West was known for being a praying woman at the Health Center and always sharing words of wisdom. Mineva had a passionate love for her family and enjoyed attending the Johnson, Nealy Family Reunions! On Friday, May 27, 2022, Sis. West answered the call of her Savior and was granted complete healing as she was called to her Heavenly home. Preceding her in death was her husband Bobby in 2002, her parents, Oliver & Lola Mae Johnson, siblings, Willie Frank, Johnny and OJ Johnson, Wylene Walton, two nieces, Maylene Johnson-Wilson and Jackie Johnson-White.
