Lloyd Wayne Chavis, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend went to be with the Lord, Sunday, May 21, 2022 in Brooklyn, NY.

He was born April 10, 1949 in Mecklenburg County, VA to the late Charlie F. Chavis, Sr. and the late Mattie Davis Chavis.

At an early age he was baptized at Penuel RZUA Church. He was a 1968 graduate of the former East End High School. A natural athlete, Lloyd grew a love for baseball and football. After graduation, he attended Norfolk State University where he played on the Spartan Football team. There he met Latis Marie Brownridge, whom he married and from this union two daughters were born, Tanya, who he will be joined in heaven and Chandra.

Known to be skilled with his hands, Lloyd retired from the YMCA in Brooklyn, NY where he worked in maintenance for about 25 years. He was known as everyone’s favorite handyman. If it was broken, “Lloyd could fix it.”

Lloyd enjoyed morning phone conversations with his sisters and hanging out at the store with his friends. He loved his family and his family loved him. We will miss Lloyd and his witty remarks and hearty laugh. We can rest assured that he knew he was and will continue to be loved dearly by all those who knew him.

Along with his daughter, Chandra (Ernest) of Portsmouth, VA; step-son, William Brownridge, Sr., Edenton, NC; he also leaves to cherish his precious memory are three grandchildren- Daijiah, Tiannah, and Isaish Steele, all of Portsmouth, VA; one great-granddaughter, Chailynn Steele, who he affectionately called his “Beyonce;” two sisters- Martha Sallie, Philadelphia, PA and Lou Ethel Coleman (Andrew Grant), South Hill, VA; sisters-in-law, Sandra, Mamie, Edith, Lena, Pauline, Ella Gray and Barbara Ann Chavis; a devoted friend- Ricardo Kingston of NY as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
