Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. EST Friday, June 17, 2022 at New Hope Baptist Church, Holy Trinity, AL with Rev. Keith James, officiating. Interment to follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. Visitation is Thursday, June 16, 2022 from 1-5 p.m. EST.
Ret. SFC Elijah Dixon was born May 9, 1939 in Ft. Mitchell, AL to the late Jim Dixon and the late Hattie Mae Grier Dixon. He attended the Russell County School System and was a graduate of Troy University. He joined the US Army in 1963. After honorably serving 23 years and retired in 1986.
He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Vera Averett. To this union four daughters were born. They were married for 65 years.
He joined New Hope Baptist Church at an early age and served faithfully until his death. He was a devoted member and served many years on the church's usher board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Dixon and Hattie Grier-Dixon; two sisters, Lula M. Bellamy and Jessie Mae Grier; four brothers, Tommie Lee Dixon, Jimmy L. Dixon, Tonax Dixon and John W. Dixon; two daughters, Myrtis (David) Harvey and Jacqueline Jones; one granddaughter, Dyanna Nicole Dixon.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Vera Averett Dixon; two dedicated an devoted daughters, Glenda Rena (Keith) Tolbert and Pernesia Faye (Fess) Young; six grandchildren, Lakeisha (James), Vanessa, Sheena (Demetrius), Jalessa, Kaitlin and Xaiver; ;12 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
