Mrs. Jacqueline Avery Wilder

09/08/1964 - 06/19/2022

Mrs. Jacqueline Kathleen Avery Wilder, daughter of the late Charlie and Catherine Avery, was born September 8, 1964 in Augusta, GA. Affectionately called “Jackie,” she attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School K-8 and received her high school diploma in 1982 from T. W. Josey High School, a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from South Carolina State University in 1987, and a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lesley University in 2002. She passed the National Praxis Core Exam and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification. At an early age, Jackie became a faithful and dedicated member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Augusta, GA. She loved God and her church family, and she loved working in the church. As a youth, she served the YPD, usher board and sang in the choir. She has been singing all her life in church and church conferences. She beautifully blessed everyone with her voice singing with the Voices of Bethel Choir. Congregants were always moved by her stirring, bolting, and spiritual renditions of music. Always touching the hearts of all who had listened. And leaving them breathless beyond measure. She served this choir zealously as treasurer and president. Jackie also served on the Fannie T. Hall Stewardess Board. She often spoke about how she was honored and excited to be an intricate part of this board and the worship service and wanted to serve completely. In 1992, Jackie became a member of Zeta Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. While a member of the chapter, she held the office of Treasurer. In 2018, she helped charter the Alpha Alpha Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She became a Life Member and Silver Star. Jackie held many positions in AAEO including the office of Doorkeeper. She served on many committees including Finance, Standards and Leadership. She worked on various chapter programs including #CAP, Economic Legacy, and Global Impact just to name a few. Jackie volunteered in the community by reading at elementary schools, participating in the Breast Cancer Walk, donating book bags, donating to evacuee shelters, participating in Voter registration drives and supported HBCU’s. As an active member of the sorority, she attended AKA Day at the Capitol, Cluster Meetings, Regional Conferences, the Boule and Leadership Conferences. Jacqueline had an undying love for education and her students. She devoted thirty-three years teaching Math. Her leadership provided her success at three Richmond County High Schools: Glenn Hills High School, T. W. Josey High School, where she was Department Chair, and A. R. Johnson Magnet School. She later taught and retired from Grovetown High School in Columbia County. Jackie poured a lot of love and hard work into her students because she didn’t want them to struggle. She wanted them to get the best out of an education. It was her mission to give them her best and beyond so they could be successful in anything they choose to do. On June 10, 1989, Jacqueline married the love of her life, Curtis Wilder, Sr. He pursued her love endlessly. He will always love her and keep her in his heart and thoughts forever. Their union was blessed with 5 handsome boys she adored abundantly. Many people knew her boys. She always dressed them alike and kept them near her. As a wife and mother, Jackie loved all of them more than herself, and she would do anything for them. They never had to worry about the household. They never had to worry about being well-taken care of. Jackie would fight you to the ends of the earth for Curtis and the boys. However, there are two special little ones that knew Jackie as “Nana.” Nana loved her grandbabies like no other. They were her pride and joy. Like a good Nana, always ready to spend time with them, money on them, and willing to do anything for them. But, Jackie admired, adored, and was crazy about her sister. She didn’t like anything or anyone to come between her and her sister. They supported and protected each other in their triumphs and disappointments. Jackie was her sister’s number one fan. There is no end to their love for one another. It will always be Trelle and Jackie, Jackie and Trelle. So much is to be said about how much Jackie loved her family and friends. Many cousins on both sides of her family, near and far. Some of them she spoke to every day or every week. At times, she would talk with her closest friends or her closest cousins about concerns within the family. Yet always loving and staying positive about the things she was going through. She knew her family and friends loved her. And she loved them immensely. To be clear, Jackie loved hard. That smile…. That look…. That laugh…. That beautiful voice…. Ever so missed…. Ever so warming. Ever so sweet. Ever so loved…. JACKIE!
