Peggy Ann Gooden, known more affectionately as Gigi or Peg, was born in Anniston, Alabama on April 12, 1950. In 1965 she left behind her southern lifestyle and was sent to live with some family in Cleveland Ohio. Her next and most fitting stop was to the Big Apple. Peggy's daringness, determination, and bluntness made her a perfect match for NYC. It was in NYC where she raised Shante and Fastima, she taught them to be tough and swift enough to navigate the concrete jungle and any other challenges that life may throw their way. The life she built for herself in NYC was as full and colorful as her personality; she was known to be a dancer, a fly dresser, a great cook, a party hostesses, and above all she was known to be a good person. Ms. Peggy was well known by her QB community, on any day she would walk outside and over 10 people would greet her. Ms. Peggy was a social butterfly and very memorable. She was respected and admired by many for her wisdom and encouragement. Gigi showed her affection for others through her wisdom and advice and, for those that were lucky enough, through her food. She gathered many people over plates of mac and cheese, lemon chicken, banana pudding, fried fish and her famous Thanksgiving sweet potato pie. While NYC was Ms. Peggy's home for over 40 years her wishes were to be taken back to the south, the place she originally called home. Peggy's final days were spent in the South with her angel/granddaughter Quay. May her soul rest in eternal peace. Peggy is survived by: her siblings, Lorine Tyler, Willie Gooden, and Anthony Gooden; daughters, Lolita "Shante" Gooden (Jabar), Fastima Gooden, and Monique "Neek-Neek" Williams; grandchildren, Kareem Gooden, Jahque "Quay" Bryan-Gooden, Shafatae Williams, Tajzae Bryan, Jahnay Bryan, grandson in-law Kwame Phipps; two great-grandchildren, Ayani and Nile; special cousin, Betty; nieces and nephews, Sabrina McCallister (Vincent), Verna Woodley, Ashley Gooden, Anthony Jr., Matthew Gooden, Dexter Gooden, Christopher Foxx, Catrissa, Boo, Willie jr. and more; special QB community family Monqiue, Kenya, Cookie, Mary, Margarita; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives, and friends. She is predeceased in death by her mother, Lorine Stone Gooden, her father, Jim Tom Gooden, Sr., her brother Jim Tom Gooden, Jr., and sisters, Jimmie Lue Gooden Cox and Sara Gooden Foxx.
