Sending love, thoughts, and prayers to the McClinton family and our Charlotte radio disc jockey's family. A piece of our local radio personality history has transitioned to voicing for the souls in heaven. From Kiss 102 to Power 98 to just being Uncle Darryl from my childhood, you will be missed. God Bless you and may God receive you with open arms. The Lockhart & Royster Family

Darryl it hurt so much that I didn't get to talk to you again before you got sick or before you passed. But I thank God for putting you in my life and spending the many times we spent together as kids growing up as Adults. I will cherish the time you personally made my music CD's, took me to concerts, and spending personal time talking with you and laughing at some of your corny jokes, but you did have a lot of funny ones too!! Our time together was precious to me and I will never forget them ❤ until we meet again. The love we had together will always be in my memories, RIP Darryl McClinton/Mean Jamming Gene/Truck. Your First Love🌹Sheila Morrison

Darryl, Thank You for coming into my life almost 27 years ago. I called trying to win tickets. Twice one month apart. One of us made a joke and from there we were forever connected! You were NEVER Mean Gene or Gene Knight or Officer McClinton with me. You were Darryl E McClinton. The perfect Mentor to generations. Smartest Man, Bluntly Honest Friend! With a Heart of Love. That word friend does not fulfill our bond. There's not enough room on here to go through all of our moments our memories. (We both know I beat you in chess that evening though!) the Only argument ever. My life is forever changed because of the mark you made within it, within me! No more pain, no more fighting. Save me a place, Until We Meet Again. You didn't leave me, your family and friends... you just said C——YA!

May Allah be pleased with Darryl. I remember the radio station he had for his neighborhood. I loved listening to it. He was a good Brother.

I just received the news through a friend. I knew Mean Jamming Gene as Uncle Darryl. I grew up playing with his niece Nikki. Nikki's mom and my Aunt Sarah are good friends. Uncle Darryl would often make us snacks before he left for his shift at Power 98 in the 1980s, or bring us ice cream. I'm so sad to hear of his passing. He will be missed. — Allyson Wilson
