Obituary

Earthly life for Irene Alma Huewitt began in Barney, Georgia (Brooks County) on April 12, 1928 when she was born to Willie and Cattie Lee Huewitt. She was the oldest of seven children born from their union. Her parents preceded her in death.

Irene grew up in Barney with her other six siblings. John Huewitt, Sr. of Tallahassee, Florida and Ethel Lee Jones of Quitman, Georgia are her last two surviving siblings. Ellis Huewitt, Sr., Richard Huewitt, Cora Jennette and Willie Edward Huewitt preceded her in death.

At the age of 22, she met and married Harvard Redding of Savannah, Georgia. Following their marriage, they moved to Trenton, New Jersey. Growing up with her father who was a Baptist pastor, she knew the Lord at an early age. She continued her service to the Lord when she joined Mt. Carma Baptist Church in Trenton, under the leadership of Pastor John D. Davis. There she sang with the Davis Specials for many years and continued years of service and dedication until retiring back to Quitman, Georgia in 1980. She then joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Quitman, Georgia under the leadership of Pastor Joe Troup. She was a dedicated church and choir member. She later joined Simmon Hill Baptist Church of Dixie under the leadership of Pastor James Huewitt, Sr. where she lived and served out the remainder of her life. She loved good singing, preaching, music and most of all, she loved the Lord and was not ashamed to let anyone she came in contact with know just that. Every day once she was awake, her saying was “Lord I thank you for one more day”. Loving and servicing the Lord was the joy of her life.

Irene Alma Huewitt Redding leaves to cherish her memories and love to her loving children Pastor James Huewitt, Sr. (Cynthia), Quitman, GA, Roscoe Miley (Cythina), Lawrenceville, NJ, Howard Redding (Terri), Delaware, Robert L. Redding, Tampa, FL, Catherine Thomas (Willie), Texas and Carrie B. Ashley, Quitman, GA; Lamar Redding preceded her in death; 19 loving grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
