Nashville - Bishop Emeritus George Walter Price, Jr., age 77 of Nashville, TN, died on June 25, 2022. Born on November 15, 1944, in Detroit Michigan, he was the only child of the late Deacon George Price, Sr. and Sister Clara Presley Price. His family was faithful members of the Fullerton Street Original Church of God, Detroit, Michigan where the Late Bishop Emeritus Donald R. Jones served as pastor. Under his leadership Bishop Price was very active in the church as a young man. First starting out as a Sunday School teacher and progressing through various roles in the National body. George married his life partner, First Lady Peggy J Price in 1971 and enjoyed 51 years of marriage. During their marriage they had three children Marla, George III, and Marcel and lived in Akron, Ohio and Nashville, TN.
During a bible study the preacher prophesied that he was a preacher, at the time he was not. However, the prophesy would be fulfilled in 1972. He attended Moody Bible College and the University of Michigan-Extended. He received an honorary Doctorate from Faith Evangelistic Christian School. Bishop Price has pastored in the Original Church of God for 38 years. He served as the General Overseer of the National HYPU (Holiness Young People Union) of the Original Churches of God for over 18 years. Bishop Price pastored for eight years at the Coburn Street Original Church of God in Akron, Ohio. He is an avid teacher and student of the ‘Word’. He is the owner of over 500 bibles and study books and has accumulated a Christian library that can rival any Christian bookstore.
On December 8, 1985, Bishop George W. Price, Jr. was installed as the fifth pastor of 14th and Phillips Original Church of God, Nashville, Tennessee. Bishop and First Lady Price’s ministry has been a very active one. Through their leadership and vision, we have been able to reach beyond the four walls of the church and take on a missionary role in the community. In 1996, the Lord blessed 14th and Phillips Original Church of God to break ground on the current property at 2816 Tucker Road. The church name was changed to Bethesda Original Church of God. In 1999, Bishop Price was elected Presiding Bishop of the Original Churches of God, Incorporated at the Annual Convocation. Along with being elected presiding prelate in the United States, he also presided over the Original Churches of God in Ghana, West Africa that includes eight churches. In August 2015, after 16 years of faithful service, Bishop Price became Bishop Emeritus of the Original Churches of God, Incorporated. Bishop Price has been very involved in the Nashville community at large over the 30 years. He has served with the IMF (Interdenominational Minister's Fellowship), Commissioner of Social Services and as a Chaplain for the Metro Police Department where he was a part of the Ministers’ Youth Intervention Team. He has established relationships across Nashville, the State of Tennessee, and the United States within the religious and civic communities.
Bishop Price was preceded in death by his son, Marcel R Price and great- granddaughter, Parys N Scruggs. He is survived by his children, Marla Adams (Andre) and George M Price III (Charishma); grandchildren, Porsha, Fallan, Jacobi, Jude and Jaxsen; great- grandson, Timothy, and family.
Bishop Emeritus George W Price, Jr will lie in state be on Saturday, July 9, 2022, 1-6 pm at Bethesda House of Healing, 2816 Tucker Road, Nashville Tn 37218.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at 2 pm Bethesda House of Healing, 2816 Tucker Road, Nashville TN 37218. Celebration of Life and Legacy to follow with Pastor Derek Miller officiating.
Interment ceremony at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery (7931 McCrory Ln, Nashville, TN 37221) on July 11th at 10am to follow with repast at Bethesda House of Healing, 2816 Tucker Road, Nashville Tn 37218. (Family Only)
