Monty Darnell Neal

Monty Darnell Neal, age 63, was born September 30, 1958, in Tallulah, Louisiana to Betty and Reverend William Neal. He graduated from Cherryville High School in 1976. He graduated from Gaston College in Law Enforcement.
Monty was hired by Kings Mountain Police Department on May 9, 1988. He worked there until 1990 when he transitioned to the Cherryville Police Department. He served there until 2001 and transitioned to the Shelby Police Department where he served until his retirement on September 1, 2005. Monty was a lifetime member of the North State Law Enforcement Officers Association.
He was preceded in death by his father, Reverend Neal, his sister Francine Byers, his stepfather, AC Harper, his grandmother, Elizabeth Young, and a young niece, Elizabeth Neal.
Monty loved life. He never met a stranger. He loved to dance and was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys. His joy of life, no matter how his health deteriorated, was an inspiration to all of us.
He leaves behind a wonderful and loving mother, Betty Jean Neal Harper, two brothers, Leland Neal (Cherryville, NC), Adrain Neal (Parker, CO), a half-sister, Jessica Neal, his treasured nieces, Shea Thompson, Katisha Miller, and Truta Byers, his beloved nephews, Stacy Neal, Tyler Neal and Grant Neal, and his three great nieces and six great nephews. Monty was blessed and will be missed by his many relatives, co-workers and friends.

Quiet Hour: At the church from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M.
Burial: Cherryville City Cemetery, Cherryville, North Carolina
Public Viewing at the funeral home on Friday, July 1, 2022 from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M.
