Obituary For Marvin Kidd

OPELOUSAS – Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Ford and Joseph Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA for Mr. Marvin Kidd, 58, following interment in Garden of Memory Cemetery in Opelousas, LA.

Marvin LeRoy Kidd was born in Monroe, Louisiana to Betty Louise Clemons and Leroy Kidd on July 26th, 1963. He accepted Christ at a young age at Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church in Ruston, Louisiana. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball and had an uncanny knack for the drums. He attended Ruston High and continued his pursuit of knowledge at Grambling State University. After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Marketing in 1985, Marvin utilized his degree by holding several high-level managerial positions throughout his career. In 1988, Marvin married the love of his life Gloria Thornton. The couple parented two children, Kameron and Kandice Kidd.

Marvin was firm and steadfast in his beliefs. He named Little Zion Baptist Church of Opelousas, Louisiana as his home away from home. Marvin also had a profound love for his family. He cherished time spent in person or over the phone with his loved ones. He especially cherished sharing a “cold one” with his brother-in-law, Byron Chavis, reminiscing with his brothers and sisters, and engaging in spirited debates about politics, sports, religion, and philosophy with anyone who threw down the gauntlet. Most of all, Marvin treasured moments of love and laughter with his wife.

On June 24th, 2022, Marvin passed peacefully in the comfort of his home with his wife, Gloria, at his side. Marvin will be remembered by some by his nicknames Marv, Mr. Brown, and Lil Bill, but everyone will remember him as an intelligent, humorous, and loving man. His legacy will be remember by his wife, Gloria and children, Kameron (Michelle) Kidd and Kandice Kidd; grand-puppy, Roux Kidd; sister Cynthia Kidd of Denver, Colorado; brothers Byron Kidd of Kankakee, Illinois, Anthony (Cynthia) Kidd of Cypress, Texas; aunts and uncles Ollie (Grady) Key of Grambling, Louisiana, Joel (Joannie) Clemons of Los Angeles, California and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandmothers, Lucille Clemons and Estelle Kidd; grandfathers Willie (Buddy) Clemons and Ora (Buddy) Kidd; father,Leroy Kidd; mother, Betty Clemons; aunt, Eunice (Elmore) Wilson; and sister, Shirley (Milton) Kidd.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. at Ford and Joseph Funeral Home.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to: Metoyer Family Medical Center, Dialysis Fresenius Center of Opelousas, Heart of Hospice, Cardiovascular Institute of the South and Kandice Kidd.
