Fondly known to many as “Boo Boo,” Derek was educated in the public schools of Guilford County and was a graduate of High Point Central High School, where he played football. After graduating high school, Derek served an enlistment in the United States Army. He was employed as a warehouse supervisor with Thomasville Furniture Industries.
Anyone who knew Boo Boo always looked forward to his million-dollar smile with all 32 teeth showing. He loved and adored his children and grandchildren. Fashion wise, he would dress very sharply from head to toe. Derek was a member of Chosen Generation Church, where he served as a deacon and an armor bearer for 5 years.
Derek had a very special closeness in his heart to several family members and friends: His late wife, Mildeen Albea, his high school sweetheart and first wife, Carlissa Foster Albea; cousin, Matt Weeks; god brother, Archie Turner; god sister, Johnetta Brown; friends, John Knotts, Jarod Walls, Eugene Bronson, Mike Wall, and Brenda Hood.
He leaves to cherish his memories, two daughters, Nikisha Albea and Sha’Rhonda Albea, both of High Point, NC; two sons, Trovarus Albea of High Point, NC, and Quinton (Andrea) Jackson of Columbia, SC; two grandsons, Nasir Jackson of Columbia, SC, and Trentius (TJ) Albea of High Point, NC; one stepdaughter, Natasha Jackson of Charlotte, NC; three stepsons, Antwan and Rashad Stevenson of High Point, NC, and O’Darius Jackson of Columbia, SC; two sisters, Crystal (Lee) Henderson of Greensboro, NC, and Tuwanna Albea of High Point, NC; three brothers, Ruby Garrett of Patterson, NJ, Melvin Albea and Anthony Albea, both of High Point, NC; and a host of cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Solid Rock Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery. Mr. Albea may be viewed on Monday, July 11, 2022 at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
