Born on October 4, 1957, “JaJa,” as she was affectionately named by her first grandchild, was the youngest daughter of Mr. Benjamin Satchel and Mrs. Louise Barrett Perkins. She attended Myrtle B. Hoffman Childcare Center, was a cheerleader at Wilson Elementary School and attended Highland Jr. High School. She was a proud 1975 graduate of Hunter Huss High School. Joycelyn was a dedicated member of the Black Student Union and thoroughly enjoyed planning and attending their class reunions. Upon completion of high school, “JaJa” attended North Carolina Central University where she received a degree in Business Administration. To know her was to love her. Her soft and quiet presence yielded adoration throughout her family, circle of friends, and her beloved Highland Community. Joycelyn was a member of Orchid Temple #923. She was committed to social justice. In her most recent years, she enjoyed working as an Assistant with the Board of Elections. In July 1995, she married the love of her life, Mr. Michael Jamison. Together they become pillars in the Highland Community, providing strength, pride and belonging to those around them. Their doors were never closed because “JaJa” enjoyed living life to the fullest. In addition to her parents, Joycelyn was preceded in death by her eldest and only brother Mr. Warren R. Perkins. Words cannot convey how much her daughter, Tausha Perkins Wright, and her son, Chad Perkins (Shanae); bonus sons, Brandon Jackson and Travis Leach; sisters, Mrs. Brenda Ballard (Tony), Ms.Yvonne Perkins and sisters-in-law, Lillian Jamison and Cheryl Perkins are going to miss her.
