Marvin Lewis Carter

On Friday, July 15, 2022, Marvin L. Carter 58, of Clearview Dr., Martinsville, VA, transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life. Born in Virginia March 19, 1964, he was the son of John Carter, Jr., and the late Bertha Mae Madison Carter.

Marvin was a member of Refuge Temple Ministries, where he sang with the Men of Destiny, and a member of the Security force. He was a graduate of Tunstall High School class of 1982. Marvin was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins, Boston Celtics, and NASCAR racing.

Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife, Vanessa S. Carter of the home; his father and step-mother, John and Becky Swanson Carter of Axton, VA; one son, Tevin Kirby of Danville, VA; three daughters, Latasha (Brack) Scales of Martinsville, VA, Tanika (Devin) George of Reading, PA, and LaQuanta (Shaq) Preston of Martinsville, VA; one sister, Mary (William) Burns of Fayetteville, NC; five brothers, Ronnie (Trina) Carter of Ladson, SC, Ricky (Sandra) Carter of Danville, VA, Timothy (Brenda) Carter of Martinsville, VA, Darryl Price of Axton, VA, and Jeff (Lisa) Price of Danville, VA; two brothers-in-law, Frank Schoefield, and Joe Schoefield both of Martinsville, VA; 12 grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. until the start of the funeral at 3 p.m. at Refuge Temple Ministries, 205 Clearview Dr., Martinsville, VA, with Elder Alan Preston, Eulogist. Burial will follow at Fair Haven Memorial Park, 18960 A.L. Philpott Hwy., Spencer, VA. Viewing will be held Friday, July 22, 2022, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required. Other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 223 Clearview Dr., Martinsville, VA.
