Obituary For Leroy Simmons

Home going celebration for Mr. Leroy Simmons, Sr. of Talladega, 90, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Terry's Mortuary Chapel. Reverend Percy Welch will deliver the eulogy. Interment will be in Midway Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022, from 1-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

On July 24, 1931, Leroy Simmons began to run his course under the parentage of William Simmons and Iner Cass Simmons in Talladega, Alabama.

Mr. Simmons made the decision to dedicate his life to Christ and served as a deacon at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. He completed his education in the Talladega County School System and was a graduate of R. R. Moton High School. On August 11, 1952, Leroy took the hand of the former Ella Louise Garrett in holy matrimony. Leroy enlisted in the United States Army on January 30, 1951 and served honorably until January 25, 1957. Throughout the years, Leroy provided for his wife and family by finding employment at Anniston Foundry, Bemiston Mill, Kimberly-Clark Corporation and Honda Manufacturing of Alabama. When Leroy was not working, he found enjoyment in watching baseball and rabbit hunting.

On July 18, 2022, the Lord saw that Leroy had fought a good fight, kept the faith and completed his course at Princeton Baptist Medical Center. He was reunited with his parents, William and Iner C. Simmons; his brothers, Williams “Stick” Simmons, Mack Simmons and Lewis Moore; a son-in-law, John Beavers; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Simmons.

Leroy has been the loving and dedicated husband of Ella Louise for nearly 70 years. He was also the caring father of Leroy Simmons, Jr. of Detroit, Michigan, Beverly (Robin Terrell) Torruella of Columbus, Georgia, Cornada (Veronica) Simmons of Huntsville, Alabama, Verna Renee Beavers of Talladega, Alabama and Centauri Simmons of Talladega, Alabama; grandfather to ten children, great grandfather to one child and great-great grandfather to one child; brother to Yvonne Simmons, Brentoria Tanner, Ebony Tanner (Ramon) Johnson and Jakiel Simmons of Talladega, Alabama; and a relative and friend to a host of others that knew him.
