Obituary For Mrs. Monica Robertson Heggie

Charlotte, North Carolina-Mrs. Monica Robertson Heggie entered into rest Friday, July 15, 2022.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Bellevue Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4501 Wrightsboro Road, Grovetown, Georgia.

Monica Lynn Robertson Heggie was born to the union of Patricia Anne Reeves Robertson and James Lee Robertson on May 29, 1973 in Cleveland, Ohio. On November 14, 2012, she was joined in holy matrimony to John (Chip) Heggie. Monica attended the Cleveland Heights School System. After graduating from Cleveland Height High School, Monica, after receiving a four-year scholarship, went on to attend Central Michigan University located in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Later, she transferred to Kentucky State University (KSU) in Frankfort, Kentucky where she completed her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice. Monica was especially happy with this decision because her baby sister Tenille had also planned to attend (KSU). At an early age, it became evident Monica had inherited her father’s athletic skills. After her parents received a flyer about tryouts for a new boy’s basketball team at the East Cleveland YMCA, they decided to take Monica in for a tryout. They were confidant Monica could hold her own. When the coach witnessed what her parents already knew, she was selected and went on to be one of the team’s star players. At Monticello Middle School, she played field hockey, volleyball, and softball, but basketball was her first love and the sport where she really excelled. During high school and while attending a Cleveland Cavaliers’ basketball game, she was honored at half time for being one the area’s premier girl basketball player. Her fellow teammates and coach nicknamed her “Mack Truck”, mainly, because she was unstoppable. After graduating from college, she worked as a claim adjuster for a Highland Insurance Company. She went on to relocate to Augusta, Georgia as a claim adjustor for Husqvarna Machinery. Afterward, she worked for Kemper in Charlotte, North Carolina. Most recently, she was able to return to her roots by working virtually for Britton-Gallagher a Cleveland based company as a Claims Advocacy Leader. When people mention Monica, they always talk about her beautiful smile and her generous, quiet and humble spirit. Monica believed in being a team player, as well as the value of teamwork. She had a strong work ethic and was very knowledgeable in the field of technology. She was thought of as a “Technology Guru.” This resulted in her receiving more recognition and more responsibilities within the company. Within her family, she was very much loved, and always was willing to put other’s needs first. She wasn’t blessed with children of her own, but was able to pass on her loving spirit to other children. This included her nephew Robert, who affectionately called her “Auntie Mon-Mon.” Monica was a devoted wife, daughter, sister and aunt. She always enjoyed spending time with her family especially during holidays. Every Halloween, Robert would pick a theme and the family would dress up in costumes associated with theme. This included super heroes and characters from the Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Avengers series. Additionally, her family also included of her beloved dogs Sasha and Bella. While walking her dogs, she was blessed to meet and make numerous friends and acquaintances. Monica leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, John Heggie (Charlotte, North Carolina), mother, Patricia Reeves Robertson (Augusta , Georgia) , father, James Robertson (Reisterstown, Maryland), sister, Tenille Robertson (North Augusta, South Carolina), brother, Austin Robertson (Augusta, Georgia), siblings Joy and Cynthia, nephew, Robert (Robbie) Parker (Augusta, Georgia), aunt, Janice Harper (Cleveland, Ohio), aunt, Patricia Grimsley ( New York, New York ), uncle Bernard Grimsley (Tampa, Florida), maternal grand parents, John and Mary Reeves (deceased) , paternal grandmother, Frances Lee (deceased) , paternal grandfather, James Grimsley (deceased), mother and father in law Minnie Hopper (Charlotte, North Carolina) and Willie lee Hopper (Baltimore, Maryland); and numerous cousins, friends, and co-workers.

Although Monica and I were only friends for less than two years, she made an impact on my life. She was always there for me to talk to and we would check up on each other most Wednesdays. I think of her every day. She was a cheerleader to me, gave honest feedback, and was a great friend. I will miss her and her texts and calls. Until we meet again, Monica. ~Red

I am truly saddened by the passing of Monica. I transferred to Cleveland Heights HS in 1989 not knowing what to expect and an understanding that I would have to make knew friends. Monica was one of the first people I created a friendship with. She was so sweet and loved hanging out. Always smiling and being a blessing. I wish I could call her now and tell her how important she was at a time when life was tough. She will always have a place in my heart and in my great memories of being in high school. Praying for her entire family. Alvin
