Mr. John Nelson

Funeral services for Mr. John Nelson, 80, of 9280 Nouchies Lane, Pinewood, SC will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Kingdom Builders Deliverance Church, Sumter, SC with interment to follow in Antioch Union Methodist Church Memorial Garden, Pinewood, SC. Reverend Lawrence Myers is officiating.

Mr. John Nelson was born in Sumter County, South Carolina on March 24, 1942 to the late Ben Dan Nelson and Ida Mae Johnson Nelson.

John accepted Christ as his Savior and joined Antioch UME Church at an early age. He attended the public schools of Sumter County and a 1962 graduate of Manchester High School. After high school John traveled to New York.

He married the love of his life Irene Freeman on July 8, 1965 and they were married for 57 years. To this union they were blessed with four children. During his time in New York, John was a truck driver and worked faithfully. He attended Emmanuel AME Church. After returning back to South Carolina, he relocated back to Antioch UME Church and served faithfully on the usher board and kitchen committee until his health failed.

John was a good husband, father, uncle and friend to all who knew him and he will be missed by everyone.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his three brothers, one sister and one grandson.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories, his wife, Irene F. Nelson of the home; son, John G. (Dina) Nelson of New York and an adopted son, Robert Lee Jones of Sumter, SC; three daughters: LaGail (Jerome) Nelson, Stephanie (Darrell) Nelson of New York and Dale (James) Sinkler of Pinewood, SC; one sister, Earnestine Nelson Moore of Pinewood, SC; four grandchildren: Lakeia Melvin, Jennique Nelson, Janelle Rutledge and Anthony Albarado; one great grandchild, Jala Barrie; two brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 22, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Kingdom Builders Deliverance Church, 621 West Liberty Street, Sumter, SC. The family will receive friends at the residence of his wife, Mrs. Irene Nelson, 9280 Nouchies Lane, Pinewood, SC.
