George, known to many as Pappy, was well known in his community as the man who had a nickname for everyone, who would lend a helping hand to anyone in need and one whose door was always open.
He retired from the Harrisburg School District with over 30 years of service. In his leisure, George enjoyed fishing, working on his cars and cooking on his grill.
One of the ways that George praised God was exemplified during his tenure with the gospel singing groups, “The Gospel Lights” and “The Hope of Glory”.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rubye and his siblings, Ola, Minnie, Frances, Helen, Alfonia, Jack, Daniel and Buddy. George leaves to celebrate his life, four daughters, Rochelle, Theresa, Mozelle and Ericka; two brothers, Willie and Sam Buie; 17 grandchildren and one grandchild in heaven; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a longtime family friend, Patricia Anderson.
His life will be celebrated on Monday, July 25 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Major H. Winfield Funeral Home at 704 N. Front Street, Steelton, PA 17113 with Viewing and Visitation from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM and burial in William Howard Day Cemetery, Steelton, PA.
