Larry Ervin Goolsby, son of the late Chester Goolsby and Thenia S. Martin was born February 26, 1947. He departed this life on July 20, 2022, at Wake Forest Baptist Atrium Health, Winston Salem, NC.
He attended London High School and after leaving school, he worked at several jobs which included Pine Hall Brick, Foremost Screen Print and Duke Power. Larry retired from Southern Building Maintenance at Belews Creek Steam Station.
Larry, aka “Goo” or “Tony” was a sports enthusiast. Back in the day, he was a pool shark, winning most of the time. He loved bowling and was in a league at Northside Bowling Lanes and Kernersville. He even began to play a little golf. But oh, how he loved NHSCAR and the Duke Blue Devil.
Larry attended Withers Chapel Church at a young age, but later became a member of Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member of the Usher Board and the Bible Study group, which he loved.
Larry was also preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Goolsby and Doug Goolsby; granddaughter, Krishauna Screen and step-father, Robert June Martin.
Those left to cherish his memory: his wife; Lena T. Goolsby, three sons; Greg Tatum (Aundra) of Durham, NC, Ervin L. Goolsby and Errick Tate both of Winston Salem, NC, three daughters; Tami G. Wilson (Rod), Marolina Whitehead and Delaine Hairston Marshall (Purnell) all of Winston Salem, NC, Poppey’s grandchildren; Tatum, Jonlyncia, Joshua, Joy, Shakera, Amari, Rae Yona, Naleigha, Isaiah, King, Morgan, Meagan, Ellie and Aurora. God-children; Jayden, Royal Prince, Barry, Kiana, Honesty and Harmony. Four brothers; Jessie Goolsby (Bonnie), William Goolsby all of Walnut Cove, NC, Robert Martin (Tanya) of Mayodan, NC, Donald Gilliam (Nora) of New Jersey. Six sisters; Annie F. Mitchell of Walnut Cove, NC, Elaine G. Malloy and Delois Watkins (Donnie) both of Madison, NC, Rebecca G. Boston and Ramona Greer both of Winston Salem, NC, Jacqualine G. Taylor of Columbus, OH, A special and devoted family; Teresa, Shakela and RaShaun Smith. Also, sister and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, numerous other family and friends.
