Norma Hutchings

June 15, 1922 - July 13, 2022

Macon, Georgia - Norma Elizabeth Gover Hutchings, 100, passed away in Macon, GA on July 13, 2022. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1922 to Milton Gover and Pauline Pearce Gover. Norma received a BS in Home Economics from Cheyney University and an MS in Education from the University of Southern California. While attending college she helped the war effort by serving in the US Army Ground Observer Corps.

In 1962 Norma began teaching at Frankfurt High School as a Department of the Army Civilian. While stationed in Germany she enjoyed camping, skiing, and traveling throughout Europe and the Middle East. After returning to the United States she married Dr. Charles Hutchings of Macon, Georgia and taught in Bibb County Schools. She attended St. Francis Episcopal Church and was a long-time member of The Order of the Daughters of The King.

Norma is survived by her step-son, Thomas (Lynn); grandchildren; Jeffrey (January), Jason (Jessica), Joan Gillard (Jason), Brian (Bonnie) and Michelle; great-grandchildren; Alana and Jeffrey, Brooklyn and Bronson, Hayden and Ava, Ariyah, Zaida and Kaden; sisters-in-law; Gertie Rogers and Gloria Hutchings; daughter-in-law, Martha Hutchings.

Hutchings Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Norma's name to the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia at 6601 Zebulon Rd, Macon, Georgia 31220.
