Mr. Charles Thornton

Passed 08/01/2022

Charles (Nookie) Thornton made his transition from this life on Monday, August 1, 2022, at his residence. He was born on March 3, 1968, in Washington, DC, a son of the late Charles and Lucinda Thornton. Charles was also preceded in death by his daughter, Big Charlese; his granddaughters, Rachelle (Miracle) and Genesis; his grandparents, William and Evelyn Thornton, and James and Parthenia Williams; his aunt, Aunt Shirley. Fondly called “Nookie,” Charles was educated in the public schools in Uptown Washington, DC. Nookie grew up in Washington, DC with a large community of family and friends. You did not have to look far for Nookie; just check the Howard Theatre or wherever they had GO-GO bands. Nookie met and married the love of his life, Rochelle. From this union, seven beautiful children were born. Later in life, he moved his family to North Carolina, but he never lost his DC swag. Nookie loved his children and grandchildren beyond words. His passion was his family. He was the King of his family and never had a harsh word to say about anyone. Like his mother, he never knew a stranger if you ever met him. Nookie was a great friend, husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and more. He stood tall but had a gentle soul. Everyone was Nookie’s family once he met you. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 36 years, Rochelle; ten children, Trevon, Charlie, Tiara, Craig, Racine, Charmya, Charelle, Charlese, Charnyqua, and Charles IV; thirty-three grandchildren; one great-grandchild, Damarion; two sisters, Donna Williams and Lorinda Thornton; one brother, William Thornton; three aunts; Joyce Egglesman, Linda Woodland, and Patricia Williams; one uncle, Matthew Conway, Jr.; mother-in- law, Carolyn Johnson Andrews; sister-in-law, Lashawn (Sis); two brothers-in-law, Michael Johnson and Robert Johnson; two goddaughters, Ashaylah and Spellar; two godsons, Demetrius and Kenny; one god brother, Charles Fletcher, Sr.; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends that he loved dearly.
