Obituary For Carolyn S. Graham

Carolyn Simmons Graham, of Richmond, entered her path to eternal life on September 16, 1952 in Vance County, NC. She departed this physical life peacefully at VCU Health Center on July 28, 2022 with her children by her side. Carolyn was the oldest of three children born to Sterling and Daisy Simmons. Her two siblings, Sterling Jr. and Valerie, preceded her in death. Carolyn was baptized at an early age and joined Sharon Baptist Church in South Hill, VA. She later joined St Paul’s Baptist Church where she worked, volunteered and sang in the choir until her health declined. Carolyn attended and completed her education in Mecklenburg County Public Schools. She graduated from the Smithdeal – Massey Business College with an Associate degree in Business. Carolyn married her high school sweetheart, Robert Gregory and to this union two children were born, Keith Lamont and Jennifer Nichole. Carolyn began her career with Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court as an Executive Administrator in 1973 and retired with 30 years of service. After working several other jobs, she started a second career at VCU Health Center in the Clinical Pathology Department for 5 years. Carolyn enjoyed fashion, shopping, cooking, decorating her home, spending time with family and dining out with the Golden Girls. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. Carolyn will be dearly missed by her two children, Keith Gregory (Helena) of Chesapeake, VA and Dr. Jennifer Scott (LeMounte) of Snead’s Ferry, NC; three grandchildren, Shawn, Jr of Roanoke, VA, Keidra of Spanayaw, WA and Gianni of Greeley, CO; one great-grandchild, Monroe Kaye; brother, Sterling Simmons, Jr (Cynthia); niece, Chandler; nephew, Sterling, III; two uncles, Benjamin and George Simmons; two aunts, Maria and Rosa Lee Simmons; two goddaughters, Sharon “Reesie” Brooks and Briana Hamilton; a best friend, Vanessa Hamilton and a host of cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 4 at St. Paul's Baptist Church, 4247 Creighton Road. Interment private. Arrangements by Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd.
